No Separate 24-Hour Feed
The official Jefferson County source is the Jefferson County Tyler Inmate Inquiry portal. The research did not locate a sheriff-published rolling "released last 24 hours" feed. Instead, the Tyler portal can search by name, subject number, booking number, in-custody status, booking date range, and jail location. That makes it useful for a recent-release check, but it is not the same as a complete release-date feed.
Verify the detail page. A search-result row may show "In Custody: No" or a blank current jail location, but the stronger release confirmation is the booking-detail page. A populated Release Date in Booking History shows that the specific booking ended. Match the booking number and booking date before treating it as the correct event.

How to Check the Last Day
Use the official roster as an approximation, then confirm by detail page or phone. This workflow is most useful when the person was held by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at the Birmingham or Bessemer jail.
- Open the Jefferson County Tyler Inmate Inquiry.
- Search by exact name, subject number, or booking number if you have one.
- For a broad last-day check, use Booking From Date and Booking To Date around the last 24 hours. This can miss someone booked earlier but released today, so treat it as a starting point.
- Review the result-list fields, especially In Custody, Scheduled Release Date, Multiple Bookings, and Facility.
- Open the matching detail page and look for Booking History, Booking Date, and Release Date.
- If the result is unclear, call the correct jail or Pre-Trial Release number, or use the county records-request path for a formal copy.
For a named-person search across county, city, ADOC, federal, and immigration channels, start with the broader workflow on Home.
What the 24-Hour Check Shows
The value of the Jefferson County portal is the field detail, not a prebuilt 24-hour list. The search result and booking-detail pages should be read together.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name / Subject Number / Booking Number | Identifiers used to match the person and the correct booking event. |
| In Custody | Whether the person appears to be currently housed in the county system. |
| Scheduled Release Date | A planned or projected field when populated; it can be blank or change. |
| Release Date | The booking-detail field that confirms the booking ended when populated. |
| Prisoner Type / Booking Origin | Context for whether the booking was local, state-related, or connected to another process. |
| Total Bond / Bail and bond rows | Bond information that may help explain a release but does not by itself prove the release reason. |
| Charges / Court / Court Date | Case pointers; the court record is still needed for disposition or sentence outcome. |
Pre-Trial Release Offices
Jefferson County has a local release channel that matters for same-day checks. The Sheriff's Office says its Pre-Trial Release Office operates out of both the Birmingham and Bessemer facilities, helps conduct releases of qualified individuals, and assists the public with bonds for people who did not qualify for the pretrial release program.
That means "released today" can mean a pretrial-release decision, a bond release, or another non-sentence discharge. For Birmingham, the jail lists Pre-Trial Release at 205-325-5716. For Bessemer, it lists Pre-Trial Release at 205-481-8529. Use those contacts when a Tyler result is delayed or when the release depends on bond processing.
Bond Rows and Same-Day Release
Jefferson County's official jail page says jail personnel can provide information about charges, bond amount, and how to arrange bond, while the Tyler booking detail can show Total Bond Amount, Total Bail Amount, and bond rows with bond number, bond type, and amount. Those fields are useful when a same-day release appears close to a bond transaction.
Do not read a bond row as the whole release record. A Release Date confirms that the booking ended, while the court file can explain whether the person was released on bond, had a charge dismissed, was sentenced, or was moved to another authority. The jail page also notes that jail personnel do not provide individual court-date information; District Court or Circuit Court is the proper route for that.
Open the Booking Detail
Jefferson County's portal quirk is that the public search is built around booking and custody fields, not release-date sorting. The result list has a Scheduled Release Date column, but the detail page is where the observed Release Date appears when populated. Multiple-booking entries require extra care because one person's older booking may be released while a later booking has different status.
No official online update cadence or retention period was found for the Tyler portal. The safest wording for any recent-release check is therefore "appears released in the official booking detail" rather than "all people released today."
Sheriff App Roster Access
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office also advertises the Jefferson County Sheriff AL mobile app. The sheriff's announcement says app users can access features including inmate roster, sex offenders, push notifications, and public-safety information. The app-store listings confirm iOS and Android availability, and the App Store metadata notes an updated inmate search feature.
Use the app as a secondary official channel, especially from a phone, but still verify the release through the Tyler booking detail, jail contact, or records request if the timing matters. Source context: Jefferson County Sheriff's Office app announcement.
If the Online Check Fails
Use the phone and records fallback when the roster does not answer the release question. Birmingham jail contacts are main switchboard 205-325-5670, administrative office 205-325-5772, and Pre-Trial Release 205-325-5716. Bessemer contacts are main switchboard 205-481-4160, administrative office 205-481-8502, and Pre-Trial Release 205-481-8529.
For a formal record, identify the requested booking by name, subject number, booking number, booking date, release date sought, and facility. Jefferson County's NextRequest portal can be a starting point, but the research notes that the County Commission is not custodian for every record. For a wider approximate window, use the Released Last 72 Hours page.
Released vs Still in Custody
A person who is still in custody usually appears with current custody status and a jail location. A released person may show "In Custody: No," a blank current jail location, or a populated Release Date in the booking history. If the booking says prisoner type "State," or if the jail release was a transfer, the person may have left Jefferson County custody without being fully out of correctional custody.
Check the Birmingham city Tyler portal separately for Birmingham Police detainees. Use ADOC for current state prisoners, BOP for federal sentenced prisoners, ICE ODLS if immigration custody is suspected, and the court record for the case outcome that remains after the jail booking ends.
